Postcards Tied With String

1.
The Water at Pont Avon -
Dear K.
As much as I enjoy pinning clean wet laundry
on the line between the house and the barn,
if I had to beat the water at Pont Avon
I would eventually throw myself upon the rocks.

2.
Monet's Haystacks -
Dear K.
Decided not to vacation with you.
I would stay forever.
In the fields 'round this place there are circular
bales of hay where I will take the children instead.
We will pretend to frolic the French countryside.

3.
Amish Barnraisers -
Dear K.
It's a shame you could not meet us here,
as lonely as you are. Notice the bearded men.
You are unmarried
and would have to shave your whiskers.

4.
Woman Pushing Perambulator -
Dear K.
I take the children out at dusk.
We walk where cattle and a tractor cross,
where deer gather in this evening light.
They graze and grace
the matchstick trunks of white birch.
Whole families of them
whispering to us
